Man, it's hot outside and all I want to do is escape the heat in some manner or other. So let's turn this persuit into a nice little competition for FREE CIGARS! Here's what I had in mind:
THE CONTEST: This is going to be a picture contest. Post a picture of you escaping the heat however you do it (local swimming hole, relaxing under a shade tree, working like a dog up on a scalding hot roof pouring thermos hot nalgene water over your head, etc.) and then give a little explanation of the picture. That's it. It's that simple to win.
THE WINNER: The winner shall be chosen on a completely subjective basis by yours truly. Extra credit will be given for: picture quality, humor, aesthetics and beautiful boats. The picture does not need to have a cigar in the frame to enter, just an 'escape the heat' theme.
THE PRIZE: Why, free cigars of course! I'll send a nice package to whomever posts the winning picture.
posting pictures: For those of you unfamiliar with how to post pictures you'll need to create an online account at a picture hosting site. Most of these are free and easy to use, I like Flickr. Once your picture(s) are uploaded to that site you can copy their URL and then paste that address while writing your post for this contest. In the text write: img src="http..........jpeg" (and bookcase that inside these things: <>) and your post will grab the photo from your photo hosting site. Make sure to look at the size of the picture you are posting and choose one that is no wider than 790 pixels. On Flickr this is the medium size.
For more information on posting go to this cigar thread. If you are still having difficulty give me a pm and I'll try to help (but the only site I'm familiar with is Flickr).
If any of you are interested in some simple, free photo editing software I recommed downloading Picasa.
So let's see some great summer photos! Feel free to use anything from the 4th of July weekend to present. I'll post a winner sometime in the near future so this weekend is game for photo shooting! So the next time you're planning to escape the heat don't forget to grab that camera and snap a few, you might just add to your humi in the process!

Photo edit: You don't actually have to be in the picture. As long as you were there escaping the heat that's good.0

What better way to beat the heat than take a brewery tour! This pic was taken on the 4th of July, my girlfriend, myself and a friend of ours went to STL for the Brewers v. Cards game on Saturday, the brewery tour on the 4th and to just chill out and watch the fireworks! Plus since this was only 1 1/2 months after my 21st birthday I could finally enjoy a few free beers at the end of the tour!!0 -
Ill be posting when my gf gets me the dang pictures lol.0

For the 4th of July you can see that I was watchin some fireworks. I was up in Minnesota for that weekend. Sat outside with my family smokin a San Cristobal and drinking some Spotted Cow. The next day we went down to Canal Park in Duluth to check out Lake Superior. Always nice and cool down there even if its mid 90's. Best vacation Ive been on for a bit. I love visiting family.

I had an Uncle who lived in Duluth, and swimming in Lake Superior is always fun!0

About 80% of my family lives there lol.Hayblet:I had an Uncle who lived in Duluth, and swimming in Lake Superior is always fun!0 -
I spent a few years in Duluth and now live about 45 miles SW of town. I just saw today that the average temp of the lake for late July is 39 degrees but right now the lake is 59 degrees so if you want to say you have swam in Lake Superior now is a good time to do it.0

No better way to beat the summer heat than PUG SAILING! Jump in the pool with your favorite beeotch & forget about the world for a few hours! :-D

We've got some nice photo entries so far! Anyone snap a few during the weekend? I can announce a winner this week or give everyone this upcoming week and weekend for more photo opportunities. Lemme know if there is interest in holding off until next week. I've got a nice prize package building...0

I'm submitting mine in a few days. I've had this great idea for a picture after browsing through some vacation pictures, so if you can give a few more days. Just been busy with work and church and other things...
Thanks

Is it ok if I just e-mail you the pic (and you or someone else posts it)? Laptop broke and it has all the links for formatting on the forums and my passwords to stuff like image bucket.0

here's wwhwang's photo:
The story behind this photo is that we were playing as OPFOR (terrorists) while training other soldiers in the deserts of Texas in summertime. We were told to be in place for the mission, but we weren't told that the mission wasn't going to start for another 3 hours. So we got bored and to take our minds off the heat, a friend and I decided to make a splinter faction of terrorists and a small shrine to Private First Class Stevens as our deity instead of Allah. When the other OPFOR found us "worshipping" Stevens, they called us heretics and infidels, so we ran around blasting each other with our paintball guns until the mission started.0 -
This is what happens when you have a bunch of soldiers in the desert with free time and nothing to do. Lolbigharpoon:here's wwhwang's photo:

Cant beat the heat without going to the beach with my lady and friends for a week. Flew out to San Jose Costa Rica from California and then drove 4 hours over the mountains to get to Quepos Costa Rica. Just beautiful.

I've chosen a winner:
There were many fine entries and a lot of diverse ways to take it cool during a hot stretch of the summer. It was hard to pick a winner but this shot just has "escape the heat" written all over it. Congrats Sniper for your award winning photo and thank you everyone for playing, y'all entered some great photos. Sniper, you have a pm.The Sniper:

Me? A winner? You love me - you really REALLY love me! :-D
Its a good thing it was a "beat the heat" thread and not a "cutest pic thread or I would have had NO CHANCE, especially against lilwing (dude, your son should be in the photo dictionary next to TOO CUTE!) and fourto (who should next to JOE COOL!). Although I gotta say fourto... YOUR HAT COST YOU THE WIN! GO BEARS!!! :-D
PM sent, and thank you for a cool thread! I will be sure to get pics of my winnings up here, so stay tuned all.
