In my previous life in the working world I've had the opportunity to travel over a good portion of the world, especially Europe. As such I've enjoyed the best wines the Europeans have to offer. I particularly enjoyed northern Italian wines. Enjoying a glass of superb wine with a fine hand rolled cigar or favorite blend of pipe tobacco is a joy for me. Anyone have any good experiences with the vine to share?
My best friend Giuseppe in 2003. I miss him dearly. Taken in the northeastern part of Italy

Hello, and welcome!! Thanks for sharing the pic of your friend. I am a returning wine enthusiast, Earlier in life I traveled Europe and was very fortunate to enjoy some amazing wines. When it comes to white wine I really enjoy wines from Germany, Riesling most specifically from the Rhineland-Palatinate region. Many others enjoy wines from the Mosel region. Its amazing how one can tell the soil/region a wine was produced in simply from tasting. Wines in the Palatine region have a quality that I simply love!!! I prefer the Spätlese wines (late harvest) and the Auslese wines (select harvest).
I have also attended the Bad Durkheim wine festival, Bad Durkheim is to wine what Oktoberfest is to beer. I may even have some pictures somewhere.. ;o)

I have also been to Italy and have sampled some reds in the Naples & Brindisi regions.
I'm looking foward to getting more into this and learning. -

I know this thread was supposed to be about wine, but one of my favorite things about being stationed in germany were my almost monthly trips to Kreuzberg. The best beer in the world.
-
When going in a pub I would first order two glasses of the local Pilsner because the first would be literally inhaled by me. By then the second was ready at which point I ordered the third glass. By the fourth glass I was able to order as i go. The beer is the perfect temp and the Germans know how not to clean their glasses. Ahhh Memories.
Lets let this thread wander where it may as long as it centers on enjoying life.
I traveled all over Europe averaging 3 to 4 trips a year there for about 15 years. I know Venezia like the back of my hand. I've visited untold numbers of wineries in Northern Italia and sampled every known food and drink it seems like. Call it the perfect Job. -

How far from Sioux Falls? Treva's son is taking a post as Marine recruiter there. He'd enjoy it. Aaron is not my natural son but so damn close it's scary. lol
