building a humidor

I am thinking I am going to build myself a new humidor. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get the wood. I have checked all my local places and I can special order some hardwoods but spanish cedar is very elusive. I live about 1/2 hour west of Cleveland OH and any reccomendations would be helpful even online stores. I am thinking it will be a small cabinet humidor if anyone has tried this and has any pointers that would be helpful as well. I do have done woodworking in the past but something this indepth is new to me.

I have been a lurker for long enough...I got into smoking a couple years ago. Got a 100ct humi for a b-day present. Later that year it wasnt big enough so I began to explore the ideas of building my own. Lucky enough I got my hands on an old stero cabinet and went from there. I used http://www.woodworkerssource.com/spa84.html for the shelves. If you would like I can get some pics on here for you to see. I am by no means a carpenter or a wood worker...just someone who likes a challenge and had the time.

Ok here goes nothin...these pics are mostly of the finished product. I will dig up some of the original cabinet before I converted it. It is roughly 4 ft tall, but I am only using about 3/5th or so as the humidor. I had to replace all hardwear and come up with a few creative ways since my wood working skills arent too good. I replaced the cheap backing with a thinker piece (1/4 inch sheet used for cabinets). I used aquarium sealant for all edges on the inside. Next I used weather flashing to completly seal up the inside. It looked like a gutted microwave during this step (I will find a pic of that). then we cut and fit all the cedar planks, used a veneer for the back and bottom. Used the extra pieces of veneer to dress things up. Used cabinet clasps and v-weather strip on the doors. here are the pics....
here you can see the v-weather strips I used ( I also used the sealant on the glass...they were a pretty bad fit but look great now). You can see where I had to plug the holes left behind from the old hardwear. Looks bad but who looks at that anyways with all those great smokes!
here are the shelves. I used 1/2 inch planks that we ripped. you can also see the nice fit that we lucked into with the linning planks.
Here is a good look at the cabinet clasp that we used. Also in the back you can see the false front I installed to hide the hydra unit and remote controled light adapter along with the power strip. Upclose the cheap cabinet looks like nice wood (but its veneer).
Here the light is on, and all the cigars are having a nice breath of air. My shelves are progressivly shorter by about 1 1/2 inch as they go to the top. Also the top 2 shelves have a slight pitch on them for display sake.
All closed up, I replaced the old fake brass handles with some sleeker polished chrome ones...off set the dark wood...the light is remote controlled. I used a $7 christmas light switch from lowes for get the job done (only problem...the christmas tree uses the same one so the light would get turnd on randomly)
here is the full pic, from top to bottom. i use the bottom to store my distilled water, solution, empty boxes, and travel humi. It works for me...and Id be happy to try and consult if you are wanting to undertake this. Took us about a month, working after work sometimes and on the weekends, and smoking plenty of cigars during the process. Hope you all like it. -

I thought it would be way too big also...but its just right for me. Thanks for the complements on it...and trust me it was fun as hell to build. Thinking about converting a coffee table....the creative juices have been flowing.

A coffee table was something I eventually wanted to do but I figured a cabinet was a better choice for me now. But someday a coffe table will be done.
