I've made somewhat of an effort to let people know my name, the whole experience feels a bit more personal, or at least less distant, when on a name to name basis.

For any who don't know, my name is Joe. It's really no great stretch of the imagination looking at my screen name.

I know exactly what you mean. At work I go by Joe and to new people I meet it's Joe, but to people who are closer and know me a bit better I'm Joey... and that confuses some people, leading them to ask me "well which is it?"
