I like a kerosene heater (20,000 BTU) because it's dual purpose for me. The one I use is big enough to keep the house comfortable when the power goes out. Saved the pipes from freezing a couple times. Might help you being in IL.

Gas overhead IR heater. All your surfaces will stay warm, using less energy every time you enter/exit to re-heat it.

Really, you have a lot of choices depending on what you want. Personally I like a propane heater that can hook up to a 20lb tank because it is multiuse. However, if you have power out there, you can use an electric model as well. I don't like kerosene, just because it is messier, potentially, and requires a flame of some sort. Really a garage that small will heat and stay warm easily with a Buddy propane heater.

I'm thinking about doing a man cave on my top floor; there's a window and a door that lead to the roof, I figure the smoke can't go any higher. Thoughts?

i bought the propane heater that connects on the tank itself, there are two spotlight looking things, and they connect right in the tank. 70.00 from lowes. works amazing....

Too cold in MN moved man cave to basement.... everything in the fridge froze... now I open the cellar door and have an exhaust fan. Not perfect so smoking has gone down drastically. Some days I warm up the car and will sit out there in the driveway.

Decided to just go ahead and make the whole house a man-cave. Set up my humidor and coolidor downstairs, think I'm gonna do a PS3 and flat screen and put the beer brewing setup upstairs.

The only reason I'm hesitant on getting the PS3 is because I'll never get anything done. =D
