Beads aren't working this winter......

I have had my humidor for 2 years now and to this point I haven't had any issues. This year however the beads are not maintaining humidity levels well and I'm having to recharge them about every week. I probably need to reseason it but have found a different method and wanted to see if it was ok to do.
I have decided to place a bowl of distilled water in the bottom of it and let the beads regulate everything. I have two hydrometers in there (both read the same humidity during salt test) that read 74% and 67% so I'm in the ballpark at least.
I just thought eventually the water would do enough that I could take it out being that this is how I originally seasoned it but as soon as I do the humidity levels start dropping again.
What do you think?
