Support for Japan...

Haven't seen anything on here yet so sorry if someone already brought this up.

Please go to redcross.org and donate something/anything to support the relief efforts for one of the worst disasters we've seen in recent history. You can donate as much or as little as you want. I went on there to donate $20 but ended up giving $50. My family can afford $50. Give whatever your family can afford.

The Japanese people are our friends and our allies and need our support. Skip one day at the B&M this week and donate $10. Skip that movie you were gonna see this week and donate $10. Pack your lunch all week instead of eating out and donate $10.

Please sacrifice a luxury this week and give something to help those who have lost everything.

Thanks,
Phil

Found some more info from WSJ for those who want to donate:

InterAction, an alliance of U.S. nongovernmental organizations, lists on its website www.interaction.org several aid groups responding to the Japan disaster and accepting donations.

    • American Red Cross says U.S. citizens can text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

    • Online donations also can be made to the International Rescue Committee at www.rescue.org or Catholic Relief Services at http://crs.org, among other organizations mobilizing help.

    • Google has established a website offering links to victims of the disaster in Japan. The site—http://www.google.co.jp/intl/ja/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html—links to railway conditions, utilities, government information and smartphone message board applications. The site also has news feeds and maps showing shelter locations and areas hit by the quake.

    • The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) is collecting funds for relief at jdc.org/donation/donate.aspx or call 212-687-6200.

Those trying to contact or locate U.S. citizens living or traveling in Japan can telephone the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or (202) 647-5225.

Thanks for the additional information. I want to try to keep this thread from getting buried and any additional information on ways to help are certainly welcome.

Another option for you military folks is to offer support to our sailors and airmen who are over there helping out in the rescue missions and providing relief. Any way you can give to the cause is needed, helpful, and appreciated.

I was stationed at Misawa AFB in northern Japan for 2 years. It's so crazy to see some of the places we'd traveled to in ruins. I still have some Japanese friends over there. Luckily, they managed to stay safe.
