I acquired a larger humidor, but it was rather inexpensive. What can I do to improve the seal? I was thinking about running a little silicon where I can see little gaps, but I don't want to leave anything smelling like chemicals. What have other people used?

small D-ring weather strip.

Adhesive backed felt from the craft store. Sealed up some big gaps in smoking humidor VERY nicely. You can get a great fit with it since it compresses. Get the thinnest one, the thicker one is generally too much.

I'm pretty sure WaxingMoon uses silicone to seal some of his humi's - might try visiting his website and dropping him an email

+1 on the weather stripping. Havent tried it on a humidor yet, but I can tell you from experience that it does an EXCELLENT job on coolidors.kuzi16:small D-ring weather strip.
