Soft flame lighters?

Anyone else perfer to use one? Seems no matter how carefull I am with my torch, holding as far away as possible, not charring rotating cigar and flame, blowing out before 1st puff etc.

There is always some bit of bitterness to start or even during the whole smoke.
Im goin soft flame now on.

I use a Xicar torch lighter and I haven't had any problems with that. Soft flame lighters are more fun though, in my opinion. It takes more skill to get a good light!

I always try to use the soft flame, only using a torch when it's too windy.

I don't have that problem with my torch, and I use a triple flame. Although, when I lite up my cigar, I don't start puffing on it too much. I like to let it "settle" down before I start drawing on it. Really helps out a lot imo. I think the soft flame is also good choice, takes a good amount a skill to lite up a stick w/ a soft flame. Especially with a match without charring the wrapper.

I use both. I love my soft flame and use it any chance I get. I have torch lighters for when its to windy or if I need to do a touch up on a stick. For years I only used a soft flame it does take a little while longer to get the burn right, but it just feels more real. If that makes sense.

Yep. I LOVE the crap outta my XiKar EX (the "wind proof" soft flame). Not really windproof, and it uses what sounds like a jet engine, so it is a little hotter than a bic or a zippo type soft flame, but the thing is a work horse. It also looks great, simple, and classy, but large and manly, not "delicate" (though I wouldn't mind the oh so delicate, or elegant S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lol). Anyway, I really highly recommend it. Best 35$ or whatever I ever spent on a lighter. Also, can't beat that XiKar warranty.

I have an el-cheapo lighter that has both a soft flame and a jet flame, and has worked great for over 2 years. Even runs good on cheap butane.

I think I have the same one. Called like Double Flame Slide lighter or something? I got mine for like 6 bucks. Unfortunately mine broke after about 8 months... but for 6 bucks, it was actually a great lighter to take when going out, because if I wasn't sure whether I would be smoking indoors or outdoors, it wouldn't matter since I had both a torch and soft flame in one lighter.

I'm spoiled by my torch...to a point where I hate using matches unless it's a much smaller gauge. That torch lets me toast the foot just right so I get a good, sharp burn.
