Help setting up humidor?

Hello!

I am new to the cigar game, so I would love a bit of help.

I just got this in the mail: http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=728

It came with the humidor, cigars, a cutter, the little round black humidifier, and some "Humi-Care Pillows". I'm not sure exactly what to do. Are the pillows redunant, and I don't really need them if I have the round black humidifier in there?

And how to I use the humidifier? Do I just run some water into it (I know everyone says distilled, but what if it's tap water? And what about if it's Brita filtered?)? And how much water?

I'm sorry, I know these are all dumb rookie questions, but, well, I'm a dumb rookie. :P

Please help me out!

first off welcome to the site.
second you will need a Hygrometer if you havent picked one up already.

as far humidification goes i would say stick with distilled water, and look at RH beads.

That's one thing i've been wanting to ask. Why is it so important that it is distilled water and not tap or purified water?

First welcome brother. First tip is to read thru the threads tons of info. That said you got to season the humi first to get it to 70rh. This usually takes1-2 weeks. Youll have to calibrate your hygrometer using the salt test to make sure it's accurate. After the humi is seasoned then you can put your sticks in. Until then keep them in a ziplock back or a new tepperware dish with one of the pillows they sent you. And don't throw away those pillows they will be handy to have later on.

Welcome. Great advice from Rhamlin, charge up one of those Humi-pillows (yes you NEED to use distilled water) & place your sticks & pillow in a ziploc bag. Now that you have those safe you can relax & take your time reading all the info you can on "seasoning a humidor". Enjoy & welcome to the madness.

Yeah definately use distiller water. You don't want your sticks absorbing all the minerals and chlorine in tap water. May affect the taste badly.
