A custom rolled I picked up at a little shop in Ybor City while I was in college. Had a snifter of Courvosier on my buddies back porch overlooking the Hillsborough River. Three hours of cognac-infused bliss.
A.F Shark in my friends mangarage over New Years eve, drinking Capt. and Coke and playing card games and making new friends through them. Was a great night and such a fantastic friggin cigar.
The best cigar I smoked was the one that got me hooked. I was at a cocktail party at a coworkers house. He was a great host and fun to talk with outside of work but a douchebag at the office. He had always talked about cigars and at that time, my experience was all of Rocky Patel, mainly Indian Tabac. While at his party enjoying a gin and tonic, he asked if I wanted a cigar. I obliged and we got to talking about my minor experience and he says " you need an Anejo!" He proceeded to tell me about the rarity and overall Anejo story. I remember it tasting so rich and flavorful. So much more than the ITC stuff I had smoked. Right about that time, another guy I didn't really care for, threw up from the body of the smoke. From then on, the Fuente Anejo has been my number one smoke and will continue to be. It has such a rich flavor, full body, and rarity that makes it "just a little better" than the rest. That's the story of the "cigar that started it all".
This one is easy for me as well, although as we all know, memory is a funny concept, and I've always wondered if mine is 100% accurate, or if it's somehow grown over time. Honestly, it doesn't matter, since the memory of a past event is all we can take with us, that memory becomes the "reality" of an event whether it's 100% accurate or not. At any rate, this was my Sophomore year of college (1997), and I was brand new to cigar smoking. A guy down the hall had introduced me to it and gifted me a few cigars, and I'd really come to enjoy just sitting on the bench in front of our dorm relaxing and sharing conversation in the evenings over a cigar. Well back in 1997, there was relatively new label that was making a big splash: Opus X. I'd picked one up at the local shop for $20 and asked my buddy to store it in his cigar jar. When I went to grab it a week later, the thing had been smashed, probably by the lid being closed too quickly, and it had a 45 degree bend in the middle of the cigar. I was heart broken, but I wasn't about to toss the thing. I lit it up, and was stunned speechless by the flavors I was experiencing. Again, I was new to cigars so maybe I was easy to impress and I'd be less floored smoking that same cigar today. But in my memory of the event, it is the most flavorful and astonishing cigar I've ever experienced. Even with the damage, it smoked perfectly. I took it down to the nub, and then proceeded to turn green.
Congratulations on the milestone and the great idea for a contest Pheebs. I feel I've got to know you pretty well over the past four years through your posts, and I'm glad I've gotten to spend some time here with you.
Yeah, I figure the next time we are in Mexico I would stop in and see him again. Tell him he is the one responsible for me getting into this hobby. Maybe drop a GOF on him to see his reaction. LOL
My best is whichever cigar I pick for my first morning smoke when I get home from the boat. After 4 weeks I'm really looking forward to it and the morning smoke is my favorite so I usually pick something that's been sitting in my humi awhile and is always a gift from another BOTL.
Well, I am new to this forum and new to cigars as well, but my most memorable cigar experience was on my wedding day. My wifes father loves cigars and I love KY bourbon so at our reception we had both a cigar bar and an "Old Fashioned" bar with my favorite bourbon, Woodford Reserve. So I was drinking an amazing drink and smoking an A. Fuente Double Chateau. Im the short guy (6'1) and my cousin/groomsmen is 6'10. We had a blast and will always remember that night and that cigar!
