Im not so worried about the sharting thing, but constantly burping up whatever you ate before while lifting... its to say the least a distraction.
I had wassabi with some chicken before a leg workout. It pumps you up like crazy. Makes your blood vessels swell and gives you hella energy... till you burp. Gawd DAMN that hurt! It made it to my "Notes to Self."

Worst pre-workout meal decision: nachos. Don't do it, unless you want to risk shatting yourself mid-workout.
