Starting Disability on Monday

Well Folks. It's time. I have my back surgery next week and today is my last day of work for a few months. I am not looking forward to staying home. I hate not working. I know that this is the best thing, and that the surgery will be a complete success even life-changing. I'm just not looking forward to being out of work. Anyone gone through Short Term Disability? Any advice yall can give? All responses, no matter how silly, insulting or inflammatory will be appreciated. That is all. Carry on...

Just use the time to let your back heal properly. Don't push yourself thinking you know better.

I plan to take it easy and not do what I always do. I usually just man up and walk it off. That's what got me to this point, I'm sure. I know that this will take time, a lot of rest, and probably laying off the stogies for a couple months. My plan is to follow the Surgeon's orders to the letter. Maybe I'll get into daytime soaps, or back into Dungeons and Dragons.

I was on long term disability for 9 weeks, it was nice, though I got fat.

Hope all goes well with your surgery my friend and wish you a speedy recovery. I just had to go on short term for a month. Hope yours goes better than mine. They kept screwing in up and I didn't recieve any pay for a month. One check was only for 2 days pay the promised it would all be on the next check and guess what, It wasn't just the days I sold to make up for the lost pay. I about flipped out called them raising hell. They finally got it straightened out and sent me a check for all 23 days.

Chris I live with a degenerative muscular and spinal auto-immune disorder , when I land in Texas tomorrow and we get to hook up after the half day of classes I'll happily talk to you about it and what I have learned over the years and my life of dealing with back and muscle disability ;)

Good luck!! I'm scheduling back surgery tomorrow. I'm not excited about it but after 6 weeks of misery I've got to do something! Actually, the forums and books have kept me sane and laughing at times. I think technology has improved so much over the years. Get well soon and take care of yourself!!
