Ive often lobbied Kuz for a position where I would be the "enforcer" so to speak for the agency....to handle these matters in a more Paul Kersey (Death Wish) manner------to this point my requests have fallen on deaf ears.

I am a Code Enforcement Officer, Division of Public Safety. Our focus in on ensuring that rental property is safe and code compliant with KY Statutes, and assisting Police & Fire when structures are found to be unfit for human habitation, or when criminal activity is ocurring in vacant or abandoned structures.
I am another IT guy. I am currently working in web development, but have done networking, server management, Information Security/Assurance, and even the dreaded helpdesk and deskside support. Basically, if it is a computer (or sufficiently fancy phone), I have been paid by someone to fix it at some point.
Right now, I am at almost 5 years industry experience and trying to decide if I want to move into project management work, or pursue my CEH for penetration testing.
I'm a desk jockey... although I spend most of my time in meetings.
I lead a Finance Team that owns the Sales Forecast, Goal and Long Range Plan process for a major retailer. Totally glamorous, I know. But I do get be wrong every Month/Week/Day and still get paid for it!
At the moment i am a security guard. But just starting going to school for network system administrations (focus on network fundamentals). Which school is killing my cigar budget!! but i look at it as when im done with school my cigar budget will get bigger..

Yep, I found it fascinating, especially if you like puzzles and figuring stuff out. It's a lot of work (on call and such) but the pay has been pretty good. I'm CCNP now, and once I get some time, I will pursue CCIE. I took the CCNA network Academy at a Junior College while working desktop. Don't miss it one second. You can do it!!
I am a former Sheriff's Deputy, I have worked in narcotics undercover and also in warrants. Currently I'm working in Loss Prevention or Asset Protection how ever you want to put it for the largest retailer in the world.
Another IT guy. I am on Short Term Disability recovering from back surgery at the moment. My employer is a college and I maintain the networks, VOIP phones and systems for 15 campuses across 4 states. I have configured routers and switches, but I really enjoy working with the end user, PCs and servers. Call me crazy, but I would rather troubleshoot a printer or PC than build a multi-segment network.
I love my job as I get to do just about everything. I can script, but I hate it. I would rather build and configure servers and workstations. I enjoy configuring AD and automating processes. I can re-image a computer lab of 50 PCs in a state 1200 miles away in 45 minutes. This includes assigning the PC's individual host names, correct permissions, local admins, and assigning printers. AV solutions are fun too! I have been there for almost 5 years and am empowered to get as technical as I want. I just prefer to leave the routers and switches to a colleague. I have let my CCNP expire and don't plan to re-certify.

I've been disabled for the past 6 years following a couple of back injuries. Prior to that, I inspected train cars for the largest rail car manufacturer in the country. The last few years I worked, I spent a lot of the time flying around the country performing in-service inspections and training of repair crews.

That is so true. You would not believe the conditions some landlords "provide". I've seen no heat, no water, no bathroom floors, tubs literally falling through the floor, huge holes in the roofs, garden hoses used for plumbing, floor joists in imminent danger of collapse, three story decks pulled away from the structure leaning at a 45 degree angle, electrical nightmares creating imminent fire danger, the list is almost unending....all to save a few bucks.
The hardest part is figuring out whether the tenants caused the damage or if it’s a case of owner negligence. There are a lot of very good landlords out there whose property just gets trashed by the people living there, and there are a lot of landlords who don’t give a damn about the property, and will squeeze every dime out of it through deferred maintenance. Sometimes the landlords will even seek out our assistance. I remember one case where some college students installed a stage for pole dancing in the basement, and the owner called us in to see if we could make them remove it.
Thanks for the kind words all----it does have its days no doubt. I have been doing it for 5 years and did child abuse investigations for 2yrs before that. The child side was politically tougher but also emotionally devistating on most days. There are some days I hate it, but I gotta do something like I feel like I am making a real difference for people who need it.

Very proud to call you a friend Dave. Someone has to be out there for the people who can't be there for themselves for whatever reason. I have got to know Dave a little over our time here together and I can say I am not really surprised by his work. He is definatley a stand up guy with a real conscience.

Vulchor, God Bless you man. I've seen such bad things that people do to the elderly and kids. I don't know how you can deal with it on a daily basis.
