Judging a book by its cover.

Everyone knows the saying don't judge a book by its cover, but is anyone else turned off by band with too much going on in em or looking like its a cheapie with some random generic name? My examples are the pinolero and say pirates gold or avocado. There's something about band that aren't uniform width all the way around either. By no means am I saying these are bad cigars ( I haven't tried them), but I just get turned off by em. I love the simplicity of Cuban brands and a lot of mainstream bands (Liga, Tat, AF, Monte, ...)

Idunno, just my random thoughts.

Hhhhmmmmm personally I stopped looking at the bands as much...if I know who the blender is or who produced the cigars the band doesn't matter to me. But I know what your saying IMO some people spend more time on the band then the blend!!

Ofcourse cigar band affect majority smokers if not all. I always like simple and old fashioned band. I like most of the Cuban band, AF, Padron many other but my most favorite band is La Palina. I never smoked a Pinar Del Rio because somehow the band simply turn me off.

you're missing out there rip. Really enjoy sungrowns and oscuros. The reason they are cheap is because people judge books by their cover. Gotta say I'm disappointed here, everyone knows looks don't make for a perfect wife. I see the band, but for real it matters to you guys? The proof is in the pudding and I smoke what my taste buds like, looks are for superficial people we are cigar lovers.

I stopped worrying about bands. Your example of the Pinolero is a case in point. Ugly band, borderline great smoke. Definitely not a typical AJ cigar.

Jared, I hear you but this is more about psychology than just the look. Human psychology is one of the most complicated topic on earth.

I tried the 1844-50 and really liked it before I found out it was a AJ blend. But yea, I know what you mean about so-called snobs. Last year when I was on vacation at home in Las Vegas, I was in a casino smoking a Puro Authentico. An obnoxiously loud guy smoking a Mac says "Whatcha smoking there, fella?" I told him and he replies "Never heard of it, must be some crappy house blend".

The mother of all cigar bands imo. I was drawn to it that's why I bought it. I've had a few if these already and every time, it feels like (not taste like) I had a mouth full of sand. Wierd

Indeed. I remember when they came out, everyone was saying "WTF-those things are huge". Now everyone has a 60 rg.

I had never seen that before... lol!!! That is one cigar I will stay away from. And its true, while that band is obviously a joke on bigger rg's, many lines are coming out with "serious" additions in similar sizes...

I don't think I have ever had a band stop me from buying a cigar... but I know I have picked up a stick just because its band looks classy.

+1 PDR makes some great cigars. They are still underappreciated so you get maximum bang for your buck. Some of their blends can be had for $1.50-$2 and are easily worth $5 or more.
