Glass Top vs. Wooden Top

I'm fairly new to cigar smoking, so I picked up a 50 ct. glasstop humidor awhile back and have been using that as my go to humi. Recently, I have had a tough time controlling the humidity and temperature in it. I was curious to know if they are differences between glass top and wooden top humidors when it comes to controlling temp and humidity?

Both have ups and downs!! Glass is great because you can check the humidity and temp without opening it. But glass is not a good insulator. Wood insulates better but you will feel the need to open it to check it more. Where do you keep your humi and what are you using for humidification??

I've heard others encounter issues with glasstops not holding humidity very well because of leaks around the glass to wood junctions. I have the cheapo $75 Milano 100 ct. or something and its been fine for the last 4 years, though I do have to charge my beads more often than the others without glass tops.

Being a noob and not being able to see how tight the glass piece fits stopped me from considering them when buying over the internet.

My biggest problem with a glass top would be that my wife would discover my cigar smoking habit (after I made her quit smoking before we married). At least if she discovers the all-wood one and asks what it is I can tell her I'm using it to store porn. :)

this is the key question here. glass and wood will both hold humidity if you have the correct type of humidity.

I'm using the gel beads that come in a jar, from what I've read on the forums I pitched the disk as soon as I could and opted for the gel beads. I ordered some 69% boveda packs that should be here soon. My humidor is sitting on my night stand by my bed away from the window. I enjoy looking at my cigars so I bought one with a glass top. Who can blame me haha

I have 2 glass top humidors and 1 large cabinet. I have never noticed a difference in the ability of my glass tops vs my cabinet. But then again, I do buy a good quality glass top humidors. I think if u buy a good quality glass top, you'll be fine.

Also, if you get a glass top or non glass top keep the humidor away from direct sunlight or working a.c. heater vents.
