Pipes & Cigars vs Cigarettes . . . And How Deeply Do You Inhale?

Personally, I think that either pipe tobacco or cigars are much better for you than cigarettes.
When I smoke my pipe, or a cigar, I do not inhale the smoke down into my lungs. I only draw the smoke into my mouth for the taste, and I blow the smoke out of my nose for the flavor and the smell which I love so very much.
Occasionally, I might accidentally get some smoke down in my throat, and I'll cough a little, but I would never deliberately draw the smoke into my lungs.
Anyway . . . . .
Here's an interesting article I found on the NCBI National Center for Biotechnology Information website at:

Abstract
Although all forms of smoking are harmful, smoking pipes or cigars is associated with lower exposure to the lethal products of tobacco products and lower levels of morbidity and mortality than smoking cigarettes.
Cytochrome P-450-1A (CYP1A) is a major pathway activating carcinogens from tobacco smoke. Our primary aim was to compare CYP1A2 activity in individuals smoking pipes or cigars only, cigarettes only, and in non-smokers. We studied 30 smokers of pipes or cigars only, 28 smokers of cigarettes only, and 30 non-smokers, male subjects matched for age.
CYP1A2 activity was assessed as the caffeine metabolic ratio in plasma. One-day urine collection was used for determining exposure to products of tobacco metabolism. Nitrosamine and benzo (a) pyrene DNA adducts were measured in lymphocytes. CYP1A2 activity was greater (p
Urinary cotinine and 1-hydroxypyrene levels were higher in cigarette smokers than in pipe or cigar smokers and higher in the later than in non-smokers. DNA adducts levels were significantly lower in pipe or cigar smokers than in cigarette smokers.
In multivariate analysis, cigarette smoking was the only independent predictor of CYP1A2 activity (p
Cigarette smoking was the only independent predictor of CYP1A2 activity in smokers. However, inhalation behaviour, rather than the type of tobacco smoked, may be the key factor linked to the extent of tobacco exposure and CYP1A2 induction. Our results provide a reasonable explanation for the results of epidemiological studies showing pipe or cigar smoking to present fewer health hazards than cigarette smoking.

Well, it stands to reason!!!
Also, cigarette tobacco has many chemical additives that are not used in cigars or pipe tobacco, not to mention, the chemicals in the paper wrapper, and the tobacco is generally a much lower quality.
I have seen some YouTube videos on how handmade cigars are rolled, and the only non-tobacco ingredient used was a little bit of fruit pectin diluted with pure water, applied to the outer leaf with a brush as a paste to hold the outer leaf in place. But, a good cigar is almost 100% percent pure tobacco with no chemical additives.
Of course, pipe tobacco has more additives than cigars, like a little bit of sorghum (a kind of molasses), and some other flavorings in aromatic pipe tobaccos. But again, there are no chemical additives as there is in cigarettes.
As I have mentioned before, I'm 61 years old, going on 62, and I've been smoking a pipe and cigars since I was only 19 years old, and it has never done me any harm. But, I still can't stand being around cigarette smoke!
Yeah Yeah! I know! Weird! Eh?

I've heard that a similar level of risk exists for oral cancers in cigar & pipe smokers compared to cigarette smokers but I've always maintaned an assumption that liberal use of Kentucky Bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey will kill that sh!t off. Right?
Well, since you have quit cigarettes, and have come over to pipes and cigars, now, you have something to sing about!
I've been watching YouTube videos on the proper way to smoke a cigar. They always refer to the different flavors as "notes" like detecting a note of honey, or a note of ceder, etc. etc.
So, a good cigar is like a musical instrument. Only it's music to the mouth and music to the nose!
I have handmade cigars imported from the Dominican Republic, and each cigar is like a classical symphony of flavors or notes.
DA, DA, DA, DAAAAAAA!!!
Yeah! V for Victory!
