It's not that bad. This one was a bit under cooked though. No pun intended.

For the most part, it tastes like a rugged hard boiled egg. Now add some gooey watery substance and a duck fetus to the mix.

Well, you da man, Daniel. I've eaten some strange (to a lot of folks) things but balut isn't one of them and I doubt it will be. So you win. I like most of the Filipino dishes I've tried with the exception of a dish that was only referred to as 'chocolate meat'. I was told it was bits of pork organ meat (kidney, I think) in a sauce made from pork blood, spices, etc. I wasn't put off by the ingredients but the flavor was more exotic than I cared for.

As for the highly touted Pho, I was pretty underwhelmed with it. The only unusual ingredient I was aware of was the bull nuts which I found to be kinda 'meh'. Other than that, the whole thing was just a kinda watery soup. Certainly nothing to write home about IMHO. I know it's not Filipino food but I just thought I'd mention it.

The restaurant is called Slaters 50/50. It's their signature patty. The patty itself is freakin excellent. You can build your own or you can get one of their creations. Like, peanut butter and jelly burger, or even the 'Merica (100% ground bacon, topped with bacon and slathered with baconaise etc). Oh and they have a bacon shake with actual bacon pieces in the shake. Good stuff.

There is a very good Mexican dish, "The meal that stained my Grandmother's table cloth". That is a very loose translation and I apologize for it. I had some about 25 years ago and I have never forgot it. I believe it had coffee and chocolate in it and it was so good. Thanks for the memory, those were good years.

Well, there's no actual chocolate in this dish. It's pork blood stew ..... with not so common pork parts. Intestine, lungs, snout, kidneys etc.

I tried the Filipino version of chocolate meat back in the 60's. A friend whose dad was stationed over there grew up with the local food. He offered to go with a few of us to a Filipino restaurant and to order for us so we could taste various dishes. One of the other guys asked about chocolate meat. He'd heard about it somewhere. Our friend said he'd order a small serving of it but warned us ahead of time that we wouldn't have any mixed emotions about it. He said we'd either love it or hate it. Period. He was right - I wouldn't order it again. It had what i could only describe as a very exotic taste. I was told later that pork blood was no longer sold in the Phillipines - evidently a health hazard (trichinosis?).
