Worse yet is being deemed essential and going into work with no promise of pay for the work performed until the settlement comes. Additionally, all sick and annual leave is cancelled, so a family vacation bought and paid for long ago may be money flushed down the toilet. I remember the last time (1995-96) we were handed letters that we were to show our creditors as to why we were unable to pay our bills. Needless to say they weren't worth the paper they were printed on. Yeah I know, we should all millions stashed away in a rainy day fund but years of having a pay freeze despite expenses climbing rapidly means many live paycheck to paycheck. It's going to get interesting as this gets drug out.

The question is: do we have to let them start back up? I say no. I don't understand this administration, it's the weakest thing I've ever seen. Reagan didn't even let the AIRLINES strike because it would be too bad for the country. The effing AIRLINES. Obama let's the government strike? Screw that, they're all fired, massive election season starts NOW. Or not. Chaos. Dethrone the moron. I'm down.

Ironically, the last time it happened Bill Clinton was in office, and the shutdown meant that there were less staffed employees around the White House, but unpaid interns such as Monica Lewinsky still showed up and with less staffers they were able to sneak around easier.

ACA is a law. It's not a bill any more. It was upheld by the Supreme Court. There are currently the equivalent of 800,000 to 1,000,000 full time federal employees being furloughed. In the meantime, Congress is drawing a paycheck as is the President. Lots of people need and want to go to work this week but can't while politicians twiddle their thumbs and accomplish nothing. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. If you want it overturned go out and vote more conservatives into office until you have a majority. Then maybe they'll do something about it without needlessly suspending valuable services for the very people that voted them into office in the first place.

I went into work this morning (Navy medicine IT dept) for two hours and was issued my furlough letter two hours later. I'm sitting in garage now having a beer and smoking a Diesel Unlimited. To say leadership at my command was unprepared for this would be an understatement. Can't say I blame them that much, because they're not getting squat from their hire ups. Right now they have E4 hospital corpsman filing in for civilian positions that have no training on how to do. They told us to pay attention to the news for updates. No, that's not a joke. Yup. Good times. Fire the both executive & legislative branches IMO. They've all failed us.

The sad part is that Obama will cut and furlough those that will hurt the most. Its just his nature. He will now punish the American people to get back at the GOP. Small man.

Shutdown sucks! I work for a nonprofit; most of my job is funded by a grant from the state of TN (about 75% of my pay; for some of my coworkers, it's 100%). Turns out, our particular grant through the department of labor and workforce development is funded 75% by federal funds. We have one week of grace period and I can't pay my bills. Pass a budget to pay status quo needs until the next crisis looming in a couple of months and keep working on a long-term solution until then. Our program is statistically shown to save the government money by reducing recidivism and lowering unemployment and reliance on welfare. Get with it Washington.

Hello? Anybody there? Dave, this administration and most of the Dems would just as soon make the entire bill of rights illegal. These are laws also. 2nd amendment is established law. I can carry any frickin gun I want anywhere I want to. Immigration? Illegal alines all over our country and our administration won't prosecute? They break the law on a daily basis. I don't her you objecting with capital letters. And you better pray real hard that he they don't tick the American people off enough that we end up with a GOP House, Senate and Presidency. Then it won't be a LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
