i actually really enjoy most ashtons - i am over the whole ISOM deal - had a montecristo and cohiba in jamaica and they weren't anything special by any means

    kuzi16:
you may think they are "over rated", but i claim that they are just "not what you are looking for"
I like this perspective Kuz, I think this goes for a lot of different cigars out there.

I'll have to try another Davidoff, as the ones I smoked were quite some time ago, before I began to "develop my pallette".

    Rocky Patel is over rated.
Send me your addy and I'll come over with my gun.... ;)... I think he might be "slightly" overrated... But then again just as Gurkha has that "Gurkha flavor" so does RP have that "Rocky Patel flavor". Sometimes it is just not "what you are looking for"...

On the subject or Rocky Patel, you need to look at how he does things; he has tons of blends out on the market, in both the Rocky Patel line, and the Indian Tabac line. He rarely discontinues blends, which leads me to believe that he's at least breaking even on all his blends, or at the very least not suffering major losses. If he can sell, why not? If he makes a bad brand, stop buying it, and eventually, he'll stop selling it. Insofar as inconsistency, I haven't really noticed it, except in the double maduro blend.

You enjoyed that last time - was it different than the other MMs you've had? How?

From memory, I've had three good ones and a bad one. The bad one burned poorly, and tasted off, sort of faded. The good ones were delicious. Also, it's worth noting that last one was also a cigar I had right after being sick and not smoking for like, two weeks. It was awesome because of that.

Davidoff, Graycliff, Cohiba, RP Olde World Reserve, Illusione CG 4 (MJ 12 is a fantastic smoke.), Gurkah Black Puro, RP Renissance. IMHO

What's wrong with the RP Olde World? I really liked the maduro!

I would have to agree with you. I really like the OWR and Renisssance. Very classy smokes, especially the OWR. I don't see anything wrong with these. I also like the maduro OWR over the natural.

I'm a huge fan of the Renisssance! That to me is the best smoke Rocky has put out since I've been smoking. Well... Either that or the Decade.

I found both of them to be lacking what I was looking for. I tried them because everyone at the B&M was hyping them up and was very unimpressed. I felt like they were very overrated IMHO. Now, the Sungrown is a fantastic smoke IMO.

Not to bash any cigar but I do have to say Casa Magna. When it got the rating even we didn't get them in here so I had to hunt around at a few local B&M to find one and I did. I smoked the whole line 3 of each and I can not for the life of me under stand how this got #1 cigar of the year. They say It was great because its less expensive price. It was a great cigar and I thoroughly enjoy just about all of manuel's blends but I think there were a few other cigars that I think should have taken top spot. Smoking though is a sport that is all too subjective.

100% agree and forgot all about these. The Casa Magna is a very good cigar for it's price. Just not the #1 cigar of the year. Too many great cigars that I would choose over this one.

I'm on board with this one too. I didn't think the Casa Magna was even that great at the price. It wasn't horrible, but there are soooo many cigars out there at that price range that are better.

I had one last week that I purchased locally. I was also not all that impressed and can think of ten or fifteen cigars that are both less expensive and far better IMHO, BUT I saved one more and I'll try it again in a few months and see how it goes. I would hope with that high of a rating it would knock my socks off.
