Hygrometer calibration
Options
Hi guys, new to all of this so if this sounds stupid please forgive me. I have been trying to calibrate 2 new and 2 old hygrometers and get different readings every time. Doing the salt test and watching the hygros after an hour the reading is about 80%. After 3 hours the reading comes down to about 73%. Is that normal for it to go up and down in the plastic bag? Thanks for any replies

If I remember correctly, it takes 8 hours to get a complete reading.

Some people do 24 hours. It's important to get right, so I let mine sit in the closet for three days.

I do no less than 24hrs before my first adjustment....then 24hrs after each adjustment from then on. Ive taken 5 days to get one set just right.

I always check it at least 12- 24 hours later. You will see fluctuations before that. If it stays too high everytime, you may have too much water in there.

Anyway....welcome to the forum, and beware...not all is as it seems.

Thanks for the info. The new hygrometers are xikar digital and the instructions said wait 4 hrs. It was just odd that the reading was 80 at 1hr and then 73 at 3 hrs. I wasn't sure if I added too much water or not enough. Just trying to keep my sticks from drying out. The old hygros were reading about 59% and I was afraid they were going bad. But we have had some really cold weather lately

Weather can play a big part. The Xikar are great, just give them time.
