I have a Netgear extender for the backyard manshack and it works great. Went from dial up to nearly the same as inside. Now I can stream video without any issues. Cost was about $75.
blutattoo:50 ft maybe more.....download speed is identical from either.
honorknight7:what has been posted is a good idea - "wifi boosters" If you have the ability you should connect a cat5e Ethernet cable......
Jetmech_63:I'm a fan of the cantenna! Google it, can be made from radio shack components on the cheP
james40:I can ship you a 50 or 100 foot cat 5/6 cable. Let me know if you want it bro.
jgibv:Alright guys, I appreciate all the help and have been following up on your suggestions. I've scratched the cantenna idea for the moment... But I think I got it figured out and am going to try to set this up with existing cables/equipment....before I run out and buy any range extenders like you guys suggested. I wanted to avoid cutting open the walls, but I found a clear path from the second story to the basement, in a wall cavity where there's duct work, and there's enough room that I should be able to sneak an ethernet cord in there, and run it alongside the ducts, and only have to cut open the wall at it's end point on the second story to install the jack.... (If my plan doesn't work, then a trip to the local computer supply store will be in order so I can try out those range extenders Tony posted.) Here's what I'm thinking: LMK if you guys think this will work.SBG6580 (Existing modem/router in basement at front of house, first WAP) ▲Cat6 50 ft ▼Keystone wall jack (2nd story, interior of house) ▲Cat6 25ft ▼WGR614v9 router - Lan port (2nd story, placed near exterior wall at rear of house. Second WAP Disable DHCP server function for this router only. Use same SSID and security as first WAP. Use different broadcast channel for this router. Seems like it should work according to this post http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/11509-43-wgr614-range-extender) And as a bonus....I can ditch the ethernet-over-power adapters that I'm currently using for the X360 in that room and can do:WGR614v9 Router ▲Cat6 Patch Cable ▼XBox 360 Fingers crossed this works....if all goes well I can be up and running in the garage just in time for the warm temps that are rolling in next week.....
brianetz1: just as long as you adjust your IP settings away from DHCP and adjust the network settings to match it should work ok
