Buffalo trace and eagle rare are on the cheap side but good! Mid range is angels envy!! That stuff is great!! But I do like woodford and basil Hayden's as well
I always try to keep Basil Hayden on hand... Booker's, Blanton's... most of the Beam single barrels are worthy of a try. I recently had a Woodford double-oaked that was very nice. Bushmills' Black Irish whiskey is also a favorite and widely available. My brother-in-law brings really nice Irish whiskey around but I never see the great Irish offerings here in PA. Ports are always nice with a smoke, I prefer tawny port over ruby... Marsala and other fortified wines work nicely as well as long as they're not too sweet. Grappa is a thread in it's own, so many great ones but they're not widely distributed... Banfi Aqua Vitae is a good one I can find locally but the best are not available in PA. Brandy is nice as well and every country has their take on it... Greek and Italian are my favorites. Rye whiskey is popular again now... a good inexpensive rye is Fleischmann's Rye and it's my favorite for perfect Manhattans, especially with some of the great specialty Vermouth that is available. Good fortune in your search!
I really like the Glenlivet line. If you're lucky, you can get the taster pack at Costco. It's 3 200ml bottles of the 12,15,and 18 year blends. It normally goes for 39.95 but yesterday it was 19.95. So if you buy 4 if these, you get more than 3 full bottles of each year for only $80. That's a steal and I do like the 12 year over the Balvenie 12 year. Your bourbons are looking good, Vodka is tasteless so have you looked at gin? Good tequila under $50 doesn't exist in my snobbish opinion.
I feel your pain Blurr... have you checked the closest "specialty shop"? Ours have a better selection than the regular stores... some even have Sunday hours. Are you near a state line? I can usually get better options in Delaware or NJ, often at a better price.
