Cobs vs briars

Ok...I think I am getting a little better at piping really. I have a few dozen jars, my own blends, and several pipes. For some reason, it just seems like the cobs I have in my truck box taste better then my briars at home. So much so that I am beginning to wonder if the blends I like taste better out of cobs really. Anyone care to chime in on this? The blends I like are typically burley or VA and cav blends. I really dig the lat blends out of a large bowl briar I have. This came to me as I recently blended some stuff and have smoked it primarily out of the cob on my commutes. I grabbed a bowl for a briar, one that I use for blends like this, and it was not nearly as rich on the draw.

I love corn cobs, and like you I like them more than some of my briars. Unlike a briar the corn cobs really don't ghost or taken on flavors from previous blends...or at least not as much. This leads to more pure and true flavor coming through compared to a briar--same principle as a meerschaum. Cheap, reliable, and smoke great...how could you go wrong!

Sean I had heard once that there is a market for replacement tips as well. I want to say guy pays $20ish to get a new stem or tip to kind of upgrade their cobs.

I did something simular, I bought an unfinished vulcanite church warden stem from Ebay.. some import/overseas product. cost me 8 bucks shipped. Piece wasnt bad, had flash and the tenon needed to be fit but it was fun to make it all work. Something to think of if your the "Do-it" yourselfer.

I just saw this thread. Cat, get a forever stem if you haven't . I got one from WBW and love it. One stem and a bag of MM cob seconds, and I was good to go! I usually go briar, but cobs are super dry smoking and I think a little sweeter. I enjoy aro's or va blends in a cob

My corncobs smoke really well and so do my briars with large bowls. I smoke my corncobs more because I can easily take them to work. I am totally looking into these forever stems. I am rough on my stems.
