Thank you Royln. I wish I could have just spoke of my father only, but his love for her is one out of the old movies. She's terribly missed. Have fun in Cancun!
This thread brought back a lot of memories of my dad, all good of course. My sister and I were talking the other night about Dad and this story came up. Already submitted a story or 2 and didn't want to appear to be stacking the deck so here it is.
The snowman: My sister wanted to build a snowman one winter so we went about it. Came out pretty good, she did most of the work. Got a carrot for a nose but had no coal or anything for the mouth and eyes. Had to be a classic snowman. At supper that night she was asking where we could get some coal to finish the snowman. We ate early that night because dad worked swing shift at the mill and had to go in at 4:00, the family always had supper together. Dad said coal was hard to find but he would see what he could do, he would fix it. He was smiling too. My sister was looking all night for something else to use but she really wanted coal. The next day walking up the road from school I could see the snowman had a mouth and eyes. Got closer and there was something sticking out of the snowman's mouth. Looked like a cigar, couldn't be. Dad wouldn't waste his precious cigars. Nope, he had gone out back and taken frozen dog turds and made the mouth and eyes, then a longer one for the cigar.
