Dad had a rare blood condition called polycythemia. He created too many red blood cells, is what it was. His blood got so thick that they had to drain it out regularly with a vacuum bottle. His blood flowed down the glass side of the jar about like molasses. Doc told him drink beer. Said it had just what he needed to make more blood cells. He drank Pabst and Olympia; so the doc told him if he was going to drink weak, he better drink a couple quarts a day. Mom was pissed, I can tell you. Last thing she wanted to hear. But, it helped thin the syrup and replenish the stuff his condition drained outta him. BTW -- polycythemia made his neck scarlet red, the stinkfoot he caught in the army meant he had to wear white socks, so he was the model red neck, white socks, Blue Ribbon beer guy.
