I carried one in Vietnam. I ued it to built hootches, open c-rats, anything. I carry one under the seat of my truck these days. The story goes that the K-BAR was designed to be the knife issued to the Marine who carried the Browning Automatic Rifle. Every one else had a bayonet for their rifle and the Browning being almost 22 pounds wasn't effective with a bayonet. So Knife - Browning Automatic Rifle = K-BAR.
Yeah it is a pretty big knife. lol From what I got to see when my brother let me hold it... It was a sturdy nice knife. I really don't go out in public much but when I do I want to be able to defend myself. It will more than likely go to the wayside when I get my concealed carry permit. BUT I will still take it with me when I go shooting or hiking or whatnot.
