Is no hard to understand?

Why is it when people ask you a question, sometimes they give you that weird look and ask, "What do you mean no?"
Is no that complicated to figure out?
Is it that hard of a word to understand?
Is there some other definitions of no that I don't know about?

Are you going to have that truck done tonight?
No.
What do you mean no?
I mean the opposite of yes. If I'd have meant yes, I think I would have said yes. And I didn't say maybe.
You will have that truck done tonight.
No.
What do you mean no?
Didn't we just cover this?
