I say no because of the shear fact that nobody wants to hear on the nightly news about somebodies daughter getting captured or killed. As much of an uproar there is about men getting killed there would be a bigger one if 30% of those were women.

I have heard this more than once. I think it's one of the biggest quotes that are used on this argument for military command.
While this is a bit of a gross exaggeration, but I would say that anyone who argues women should be allowed in combat has never been in combat before.
I have served in combat, and that WOULD be a gross exaggeration. Do I believe women should serve in combat arms MOS's? No, but that is a different argument.
I served in Iraq and there were a few women in MP units who actively patrolled in combat environments, but VERY few. I don't disagree they should be allowed to serve in the military in a country like Iraq, but I do feel they should be kept in relatively safer environments. I guess I should have specifically stated "not in combat MOSs."
I don't meant to be touchy about it, my wife earned(and I do mean earned, not just being mortared or something) the Combat Action Badge for being engaged and engaging the enemy in close combat. She received and returned shots fired in anger. However, I agree that isn't the same thing as an Infantry unit that is tasked to seek out and destroy. Combat arms should remain males only.
For those that want to have the 'should women serve in combat arms units' argument, I think that is worth arguing. To those that wish to argue against women in combat period, I ask that you keep it a little more respectful to our sister vets. Many a female has saddled up and accomplished her mission with honor, and a (small) few of the comments are a bit disrespectful to those Soldiers. I hate to point it out, but these female troops have likely seen more combat than many(not all, if the shoe fits...) of the men on here that argue they shouldn't be there.

I'm very glad that your wife is okay. I have no doubt that women would be able to fight, I just think that women should not be put in combat units. There have been some good reasons why pointed out in this thread. My biggest thing is the requirements. I had to bust my A** to get through RAP (RIP for some) then make it through school. As given with just the PT test women already have it easier. Though I know many who did better than I and they if they show they can pass the same standards as males should be able to do whatever they wish, it is just that I don't want to see special units and or infantry units be compromised with people who can't measure up. I know that Nurses in WWII were put in harms way on the front so it's nothing new and they held their own too. Then again I don't support going to war unless it's the last option, something many politicians do not understand, even those who served.
