Excuse us JDH. But you were the one who joined a forum on cigars and immediately went to the non-cigar part of the forum and stated your political opinion. You got other opinions back. Don't take it so hard.

Yeah the boys are right...this is a great forum to share your opinion on politics...as I clearly did. Here is where I draw the line though: personal insults. Can't call someone a this or that. Because, as mentioned, we often don't know each other except through our posts. So I may state this opinion or that opinion about a political viewpoint, but aside from saying someone is "struggling" that is where it ends. Politically speaking, we all want the same thing for the country really: lots of jobs and a healthy economy where people can care for and better themselves and their families. We just disagree on how to do it. Which is fine...and so is a healthy discussion with differing opinions. Oh also one thing...I am pretty much a jerk as Enfidel or RCY can tell you. So let the chips fall where they may and let the opinions fly. All in good fun I say. Also remember, though I may vehemently disagree with your opinion, I will be the first to buy you a beer and stogie at the next HERF.

I am very new to this forum, and do not yet know the tenor or extent of tolerance for political discussions that flourishes here, nor am I familiar with the personalities who post here. I do know that the US is as politically polarized as it was in 1968, and that political discussions can result in heated debate, often becoming uncivil in nature. I am not interested in engaging in that kind of discussion, especially with people I do not know, and who do not know me. For those reasons, I think I'll just refrain from posting on political threads until I have a little better understanding of the way things are here...... I am attracted to this site because of the possibility of discussing a common interest in premium cigars. From what I've seen, there are many who post here who have an extensive knowledge and passion for them, and I'd like to enjoy this common interest. The thread about individual humidor set-ups was a real eye-opener. Some of you guys have very impressive collections. I'm looking forward to reading what many of you have to say, and hopefully, I'll be able to make useful contributions from time to time....... I do have one question, though. I can't insert paragraphs in my posts, even though I compose my responses with them. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any insight that can be provided.

Very well said, beatnic! It is all about cigars, indeed. I don't post on many (if any) political threads and/or discussions, but I do read nearly all of them top to bottom.

what I've gathered is this: even the more outspoken BOTL in these types of discussions (Wes, xmacro, phobicSq, etc... there are many), whom you may strongly agree or disagree with, are just as enthusiastic about CIGARs as anybody out there. And trust me, it would be a privledge to trade with any of those guys. Regardless of what they know about anything else, every BOTL on this forum knows cigars!

feel free to post any opinions. Just keep non-cigar related stuff where it belongs: in the non-cigar related area! As long as you stick to that, and are a stand up BOTL when it comes to cigar stuff, nobody is going to get butt-hurt over anybodys opinion. So have fun!

The guy's who are trying to provoc you to continue smell fresh blood and this will all lead to nothing but an attack on you, your beliefs and your opinions on almost everything from this day forward.

That is precisely the conclusion I've come to, because I've seen that happen too many times before on other discusssion boards. I'm drawn to this forum for the knowledge avaliable about the premium cigars we all enjoy.

I can get a political argument anywhere, but I've come to believe that these arguments are not productive, and in fact may well be a destructive force in our society.
