Those with Cooladors
Options
Just wondering how you have them setup, divided etc...looking for storage suggestions. Right now I have everything piled in neatly...I keep the sticks grouped together but a lot of them are a pain to get at if they are buried...how do you set yours up? Pics?

They can be a little different to use then a humidor all right. If you can get some trays you can use them stacked. I find myself using the coolerdor for boxes and then I load from the coolerdor into my humi. I smoke from the humi then, so I only have to open and rumage through my coolerdor once a week or so. I call it rotating my coolerdor stock lol.
They can tend to be a little like a kids bedroom when trying to find something, that's why I limit my visits to weekly usually.
Looking at the picture Steve... you know these things are just like humi's... you should have got a bigger cooler. I use a four foot coleman fish cooler and sometimes it seems a little tight in there even. LOL -
Ya...this is I believe a 40 quart that I had....I do have some trays I can use....I should look at something bigger for sure.

I use trays I bought from that same site that sells the conservagel beads. One or two of those trays for singles and then cigar box tetris. I use a lot of the ccom bags too. I'll try and snap a pic sometime, but my phone takes crappy indoor pictures.

Here's mine:

i stacked empty cigar boxes/ a bunch of 20 count humidors in mine

Here's a 100qt, 1lb of 70% beads seems to work pretty well, split into 4 bags in each corner.

Man.. Seems like the Coolador idea is the way to go for mass storage ( which is sadly unavoidable for me at this point). Are there any drawbacks to this method?

Yeah, drawbacks are you almost always have more room! -
hahaha..too true

So, I assume you don't need to season the Coolador? Or maybe if you have cedar trays?
-
After you purchase your cooler, take it home, and wash it really well with soap and water, and rinse really really well. Let it sit out in the sun and dry for a day, this should get rid of any plastic smell or anything of the sort. If you've still got a plastic scent, wash with backing soda, rinse, and re-dry. Then I filled mine with cedar trays, added humidification, and let it sit. Mine stabilized within 6 hours or so, then I started adding cigars.
If you have it open digging around for a while, your humidity will drop pretty low, but given you have a good humidification device it should come back up pretty quickly. You almost need to compensate a cooler with a larger humidification device since there's no cedar walls to help hold/regulate moisture. Like I said, I use 1lb of beads in a 100qt cooler (pretty big) and it works great. If I add a ton of cigars or something, I do notice it takes a bit for the humidity to stabilize again, but not too long. Cedar trays can be had for around 10-20 bucks a tray, depending on what you get. -
You do need to. Even if you are just using it for storage of boxes, it takes time for those boxes to take in humidity.xIcedGuardianx:So, I assume you don't need to season the Coolador? Or maybe if you have cedar trays? -
Cool guys! Totally going for it!

1st off, get all those loose cigars in boxes/tupperware or something protective. 2nd - SHOWOFF

I'd just like to end all this discussion and offer to let you send all those down here to TX and I'll make sure to take damn good care of them! I have room in one of my humidors and I have access to several trays so they can be properly stored! lol Just looking out for a good BOTL!Diamondog:Just wondering how you have them setup, divided etc...looking for storage suggestions. I am setting up a coolidor now. Screw all this bull with humidors that have to be cedar lined and looking good. Space is what I need not a freeking show piece for an art museum!

I've got 2 coolerdor's, one for mostly loose sticks, and one for mostly boxes. In the loose stick one I got some cheap casserole style tuppers and drilled them full of holes for breathe-ability. I can stack 4 of them in one cooler. Here's some pic's to illustrate...
Oh, and these pics are kinda old but the setup is still pretty much the same...
And cooler #2
The left side of cooler #2 is just boxes stacked. It can still be a bit challenging getting to some sticks, but that's why I have 5 other humi's to keep most of the daily rotation in :^) -
DD, I set mine up like yours but with 2 exceptions. 1) I don't have any loose cigars. I have them in a box or in a ziplock back. 2) I don't have a bag of Padron Anny's like you....I'm certainly jealous of that ziplock bag!

I have also begun Operation: Coolidor. Cheap storage, here I come!laker1963:

Quick question: When I set up the coolidor, do I add the beads and hygrometer, wait until it is at the desired levels, and then add the boxes of cigars? Or do I just put everything in all at once? I will only be keeping full boxes of cigars in there. Thanks guys.

how do you buy beads in such large amounts? is that the best humidification device for a cooler?
-
You can buy them by the pound here: http://www.HeartfeltIndustries.com/products.asp?cat=65%+Rh+Humidity+Beads For me, I think they are the best for my humidors and my coolers.Christian_Sapp:how do you buy beads in such large amounts? is that the best humidification device for a cooler? -
Good site, bought a pound of beads from them. I got them on sale, and they ship overseas for our military BOTLs.
-
One main drawback....you will definitely be trying to fill that sucker up..
-
Filling it up won't be a problem.
